Austrian TV and film stars recognised at Romy Awards - PICTURE

The annual Romy Awards, named after famed Austrian actress Romy Schneider, for Austria’s most popular TV figures took place on Friday. The 19th annual event, presented by Austrian newspaper "Kurier", was held at the Hofburg in Vienna.

Christine Neubauer und Karl Markovics took the prizes for most popular actress and actor. Both have previously won the award. Markovics gained international reputation for his part in "The Counterfeiters" which won this year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.

Most popular anchorman for the year is Tarek Leitner. The prize for Anchorwoman went to Ingrid Thurnher. Both present ORF prime time news programme "Zeit im Bild".

Most popular comedian is Michael Niavarani and showmaster is Mirjam Weichselbraun, presenter of ORF show success "Dancing Stars".

Harald Krassnitzer won his second prize for most popular actor from a TV series ("Der Winzerkönig").

Best story went to comedy format "Die 4 da", best TV movie went to Austrian-German co-production "Contergan".
