My Dad The Nazi Monster

A woman's harrowing story of how she learned her father had been one of Adolf Hitler's most brutal henchmen has been revealed in a new book on her discovery.

Beate Niemann, 68, believed her father Bruno Sattler had been a World War I hero who had gone missing when she was a toddler.

Decades later she discovered he had been the fanatical Nazi head of the Gestapo in Belgrade, Serbia, where he was said to be responsible for the deaths of more than 500,000 Jews and other prisoners.

Now Beate has turned her discovery into a book, "The Good Father", to be launched in the city tonight (Fri).

"When I discovered who he really was I was sick for three weeks. I've written this book for my grandchildren and their children," said Beate, who has also made a TV documentary on her father.
