A tour through Jewish Vienna
The 800-year-old history of Jews in Vienna is a varied one, encompassing both acceptance and expulsion, tolerance and persecution, wealth and utter destruction.
With the first traces of Jewish settlement in the city dating back to the late 12th century, there are many historical sites to be seen, and a tour with a professional guide is the best way to get to know this lesser known side of the city.
A tour of Jewish Vienna in the Leopoldstadt takes place every Friday at 13:30, and includes the newly-established "Path of Remembrance" which marks the terror inflicted on the Jewish community by the National Socialists.
The tour meets in the first district, at the corner of Rotenturmstrasse and Schwedenplatz.
