GaultMillau guide gives four Austrian restaurants four caps

By Lisa Chapman

Four Austrian restaurants have been awarded four chef’s caps in the new GaultMIllau 2010 guide to restaurants and hotels – one less than last year.

The four on the four-cap list are the same as last year: Steirereck in Vienna's Stadtpark, Hubertus in Salzburg’s Filzmoos, Obauer in Salzburg’s Werfen, and Taubenkobel in Burgenland’s Schützen. They all received 19 of a possible 20 points.

Another restaurant at Palais Coburg which had four caps closed after the departure of its star chef Christian Petz.

A record 11 Austrian restaurants received 18 points and three chef’s caps. A total of 527 Austrian restaurants received at least one cap.

New in this year’s edition of the guide is a list of the best restaurants in Prague, Budapest and Bratislava, along with tips on the cities’ best hotels.

The 548-page-long GaultMillau 2010 is available at book stores or online at www.gaultmillau.at at a price of 32 Euros.
