New World's Tallest Man promise for Vienna Recordia

The world’s tallest man Bao Xi Shun is about to have his record taken away from him, organisers of a world record festival in Vienna claim.

Alexander Strohmeier, head organiser of the "Vienna Recordia" which will take place at the Prater park in Vienna on 27 September, says he has discovered a man who is "quite a bit" taller than the Chinese Xi Shun, who is 236 centimetres tall.

Strohmeier refused to reveal the man’s nationality or any other details but said he would be officially presented at the event.

Organisers said a further twelve record attempts are set to take place between midday and 6pm at the event. Attendance is free of charge.

They said some record attempts will need the involvement of visitors.

One of the highlights will be a show by Salzburg-based strongman Franz Müllner, who will try to better his own records he set last year.

Bosnian Muhamed Kahrimanovic is planning to smash 82 coconuts in one minute with his bare fists after destroying 65 full beer cans in the same fashion in 2008.

Austrian Daniel Raum will try to run 400 metres backwards while juggling three balls.

And Vienna-born yoga nut John Brown promises to hold a 30-hour yoga marathon.

Around 10,000 people are expected to attend with Guinness World Record judges – who Strohmeier has dubbed "old gentlemen in trench coats wearing metal-rimmed glasses" – keeping a close eye on the attempts.
