Slalom World Cup given the go ahead

The Slalom World Cup in Flachau in Austria has been given the go ahead. The FIS (International Ski Federation) declared the Hermann-Maier-World Cup course ready for the slalom competition at the start of next week this morning (Weds).

Almost 70 centimetres of snow now lies on the course which will be sprayed over the coming days with water to keep it frozen. Norwegian, Alte Skaardal, who is responsible for the women’s world cup has inspected the slope and is satisfied. Some 30 snow cannons have done much of the hard work.

"It looks great now and it has definitely paid off. The two, three nights that we have had were not ice cold but there could always be a bit of snow. The slope now looks excellent. Overall we have enough snow, can prepare the route perfectly and then nothing should stand in the way of the race next week," explained Skaardal.

Snow is predicted for the coming week but according to Skaardal this must be shovelled from the course. Both men and women will take part in Slalom races on the Grießenkar Mountain next Tuesday and Wednesday.
