Thousands of Austrian athletes are expected to compete in two charity runs and a Marathon later this year.
The Rote Nasen Lauf (Red Nose Run) is one of Vienna’s biggest charity sporting events. This year’s edition of the run – which features a two-kilometre (km) and a four-km competition – will take place at the Prater Park on 11 September. Comedians and acrobats will entertain the masses along the track. Organisers said today (Mon) there would also be a raffle. Similar Red Nose Runs will take place in 39 other Austrian towns and cities. Visit www.rotenasenlauf.at for more information.
Austrian charity Licht für die Welt (www.lichtfuerdiewelt.at) – which finances eye operations in poor countries – is supported by the Vienna Night Run (www.viennanightrun.at). The event will take place for a fifth time on 8 October 2011. More than 200,000 Euros have been raised by runners and the audience at the popular event since 2007. Organisers explained runners and Nordic walkers could take part in the 5-km competition.
Many of the thousands of runners competing in this year’s Munich Marathon will be Austrians. The event – one of the biggest Marathons in Europe – is immensely popular among hobby athletes from the alpine country since the German city is situated not far from the Austrian provinces of Salzburg and Tyrol. Its 2011 edition is scheduled for 9 October. For detailed information on the event – which also offers a Half Marathon and a 10-km race – go to www.muenchenmarathon.de
The Austrian Times can recommend Munich’s King's Hotel First Class (www.kingshotels.de). The four-star resort is close to the city’s main public transport hubs and most important sights. It features 95 rooms. Each of the hotel’s seven floors are either non-smoking or smoking areas to ensure a perfect vacation or business trip.
