Rapid Vienna star Ragnvald Soma revealed he never thought a crime as the massacre of Anders Behring Breivik could occur in his homeland.
The 31-year-old defender – who joined Austrian Football Bundesliga leaders Rapid Vienna in 2009 – told SportWoche magazine he hosted friends from Norway at his house in Vienna when news about the killings emerged. "One of my pals received a text message, saying that a car bomb detonated in Oslo. We immediately switched the TV on," he said.
Breivik placed a car bomb in the Norwegian capital before gunning down dozens of young people on a lake island a short while later. Seventy-seven people lost their lives. He reportedly surrendered to the police.
Soma said the minds of his fellow countrymen will be burdened by the incidents for some time "because these actions are so incomprehensible and incredible. I keep asking myself how this could happen. (…) I never thought such incidents would occur in peaceful, quiet and small Norway."
