Melzer thrashes Fognini

Jürgen Melzer has retained his chances of winning the 1.115-million-Euro ATP event in Hamburg, Germany.

The 30-year-old Lower Austrian beat Italy’s Fabio Fognini in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). Melzer – who had recently struggled – looked anything but past his prime today (Thurs). It is the first time since a tournament in Barcelona, Spain, in April that Melzer made an ATP singles event’s quarter final.

Now Melzer could be up against Spanish ace Fernando Verdasco who is set to clash with German Cedrik-Marcel Strebe.
