Puls 4 to screen NHL action

Puls 4 has said it won the rights to broadcast more than a dozen matches of the upcoming National Football League (NFL) season.

The Vienna-based station announced today (Weds) it will screen one match a week live, starting with the game between Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers on 12 September (10pm).

The private firm explained it had the green light to broadcast 17 matches of the regular season, with a further three play-off clashes and next February’s Super Bow.

Puls 4, which has its headquarters in Vienna, is part of Germany’s Sat.1-ProSieben group. The station – a competitor of state-owned ORF, private station ATV and Red Bull’s new TV channel ServusTV – started broadcasting in January 2008. It previously offered regional contents to Viennese and Lower Austrian households under the name Puls TV.

Two series of casting format "Austria's Next Top Model" gave Puls TV – which is headed by Markus Breitenecker – good market shares last year.

Live broadcasts of NFL matches will not be the channel’s only sports programme venture this year as it recently presented details of upcoming "Austria's New Football Star" show.

Officials announced the format’s jury will feature football legend Toni Polster, adding that the Austrian Football Association’s (ÖFB) technical director Willi Ruttensteiner will provide training methods. Former Miss Austria Patricia Kaiser will present the autumn show, they said.
