Lindsey Vonn enters Vienna hall of fame

US skiing superstar Lindsey Vonn visited Vienna to immortalise her footprints yesterday (Mon).

The three-time overall World Cup winner eternalised her handprints and footprints in wet cement at the "Straße der Sieger" at the Generali Centre in Mariahilf district.

Football legends Pele and Franz Beckenbauer, three-time F1 champion Niki Lauda and track and field icon Carl Lewis previously eternalised themselves at the shopping centre’s sports hall of fame.

"I’m proud and grateful to be among these impressive personalities now," Vonn – who lives in the Austrian province of Tyrol – said.

The 25-year-old further revealed she was convinced she would be able to defend her season title next winter. Vonn is currently carrying out a gruelling stamina fitness programme in Salzburg.

Vonn - who speaks fluent German - caused some stir in her homeland last winter when she revealed that she had treated her injured leg with Austrian Topfen.

The all-rounder told US press she wrapped her swollen right leg with Topfen cheese curd from Austria in hopes of reducing the swelling – a procedure commonly carried out by Austrian mothers and grandmothers.

Vonn went on to win gold in the Olympic downhill.
