Austria Vienna to sport red kit in AIDS fight

Austria Vienna will wear special all-red jerseys and shorts for the first time in the club’s history against Red Bull Salzburg this Sunday as part of an international AIDS awareness campaign.

The team, who usually compete in purple, support its outfitter Nike’s "Lace Up, Save Lives" campaign which was initiated by U2 singer Bono. Stars like Chelsea striker Didier Drogba act as figureheads of the campaign.

Austria Vienna executive manager Markus Kraetschmer said today (Thurs): "We carry a high social responsibility as a football club and want to make a statement in the fight against HIV and AIDS by supporting this campaign."

Around 9,000 of the 11,500 tickets for the match have already been sold, while Saturday’s clash between Sturm Graz and Rapid Vienna is already sold out.

Austria Vienna dropped to fourth place in the Bundesliga table after losing to arch-rivals Rapid Vienna 0-2 last weekend. Champions Red Bull top the table, with Rapid in second and Sturm Graz in third.
