Freestyle ski and snowboard event on Semmering

A snowboarding and freestyle skiing contest that was open to all took place at Semmering this weekend.

Eastern Austria’s freestyle scene rocked the so-called "Split Park" at Semmering, a fun park that features various obstacles like kickers, rails and boxes during the Raiffeisen Eastcup and showed what is possible on a snowboard and on free skis.

About 40 experienced sportspeople and newcomers contended in the discipline "slopestyle" where the best tricks, skills and style are rewarded with prizes.

The winners in the category for the youngest kids were only eight and nine years old but already showed some neat snowboard action.

Peter Wurzinger, the spokesman of the event said: "We had some hundred spectators, the mood was super relaxed, the contestants were highly motivated and obviously had fun together. But that didn’t detract from the toughness of the competition in downhill skiing. The judges had quite a hard time determining the winner."
