Danish press hammer team over loss to Austria

The Danish media have slammed the country’s football team after Wednesday's 2-1 defeat to Austria.

Online sports newspaper sporten.dk called the team’s defence "as weak as soft, soggy bread".

Daily Berlingske said Arsenal star Nicklas Bendtner's goal and the debut of Ajax Amsterdam talent Christian Eriksen were the only positive points in a match played in front of just 13,500 in Vienna’s 50,000-seat Ernst Happel Stadium.

Jyllands-Posten newspaper said the team was "miles away" from World Cup shape.

Denmark face the Netherlands, Japan and Cameroon in the group stage at this year’s World Cup.

Austria failed to qualify for the tournament.

Dietmar Constantini's side next meet Croatia in a friendly in Klagenfurt on 19 May. Tickets go on sale on 29 March through www.oeticket.com and other outlets.
