Melzer ousted in Dubai semi final

Austrian number one tennis player Jürgen Melzer has crashed out in the semi final of the ATP tournament in Dubai.

The Lower Austrian was today (Fri) beaten by seventh-seed Mikhail Youzhny.

The Russian goes into the final of the 1.6 million US dollar event after beating Melzer 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).

Melzer failed to win the first set despite a 5-4 lead and a set point.

The 28-year-old can nevertheless be satisfied with his performance in Dubai since he beat world class players like Croat Marin Cilic on his way to the semi final which he reached without losing a set.

Melzer will play for the Austrian Davis Cup team against Slovakia between 5 and 7 March in Bad Gleichenberg, Styria.
