Vienna to host Europe's biggest school sport event

The biggest school sports event in Europe will take place in Vienna this May, it has been announced.

Organiser say the "Athletics light" competition, in which around 20,000 Viennese primary school students will take part between 3 and 7 May and on 10 May at the city’s Ernst Happel Stadium, is aimed at creating interest in sports and strengthening team spirit.

Many of the kids set to take part are mentally or physically handicapped and will compete in specially-adapted competitions or with the help of their classmates.

The winning individuals and groups will be given awards at the City Hall on 8 June.
