Longer opening hours for pharmacies in Vienna

Opening hours of pharmacies in Vienna will change from 1 March: they will be open longer during the week and on Saturdays. This is the result of a regulation, which will become effective on Friday.

A press release of the health town councillor Sonja Wehsely (SPÖ) and the Austrian chamber of pharmacists revealed that 16 pharmacies will have longer opening hours on Saturday and almost 40 pharmacies will open longer during the week.

315 pharmacies in total will be allowed to offer their service until 19.00 during the week, but they can fix the days. It is possible that they will open longer every day from Monday to Friday or only on certain days.

Currently, pharmacies close at 18.00 during the week and at 12.00 on Saturdays. This does not include certain pharmacies that offer emergency service.

"The pharmacies will be in highly frequented places such as shopping streets or centres", said Andrea Vlasek, president of the chamber of pharmacists.

40 pharmacies will extend their opening hours during the week. They will adapt their opening hours with physicians in the area.

The new opening hours can be found on the Website or with a mobile phone application of the chamber of pharmacists. For further information, patients can also call +43 1455.

"Making the opening hours more flexible means more service and customer orientation", said Ms Wehsely.
