Two scholarships worth around 4,000 Euros are currently on offer to students at educational institutions for gastronomy. The initiative, "Orderman Gastro-Sponsorship 2012" can be applied for via Facebook and hopes to support ambitious future restaurateurs.
As well as being Europe’s leading specialist in ordering and billing systems for restaurants and the hospitality industry, Austrian company Orderman is now showing its support for younger generations within the food world. In order for their systems to be truly successful, they argue, they must have well trained staff to use the products.
The company’s initiative has begun with the "Orderman Gastro-Sponsorship 2012". Pupils from Austria, Germany and Switzerland can all apply for the scholarships so long as there are currently studying at an institution whose main focus is gastronomy or tourism. The scholarship is worth 2,500 Euros with a further 1,500 Euros for the student themselves and goes towards continuing the individual’s gastronomy education.
"It is our aim to support ambitious, future restaurateurs. We choose the pupils based on who we feel has the personality and ideas to be a successful and innovative restaurateur," explained spokesperson for Orderman, Andreas Neuhofer.
Applicants are required to answer the question "I am the right person for the scholarship because…" and then receive votes from others on Facebook. Those with the most votes are then judged by a jury of gastronomy experts according to the success of their response to the question. The final date for entry is 13 April and the decision will be made on 20 April.
Orderman was founded in 1993 in Salzburg, Austria. The company now leads the way in hand-held radio ordering systems, designed to provide better and faster service for the hospitality industry. The products are used in more than 30,000 restaurants around the world, with on average 20 new restaurants deciding to use Orderman every day.
