Vienna event to feature bizarre record-breaking bids once more

Thousands are expected to turn up for  this year’s Vienna Recordia later this month when dozens of world records may be broken.

Tens of thousands of people attended the event’s previous four editions, and organisers of the 26 September Vienna Recordia – taking place at Prater park – stressed that everyone was welcome to take part in several mass world record attempts.

Dozens of contenders will try to break Dane Jim Lyngvild’s sour record of peeling and eating three lemons in 28.5 seconds.

Everyone will be invited to join Michael Krappel’s "singing chain" bid. Organisers explained that 203 people singing one word of a song one after the other in correct order, speed and tune would be needed to set a new world record.

Vienna Recordia bosses are also asking everyone to come up with their very own record ideas and perform them at this year’s edition of the popular event.

Turk Sultan Kosen, at 246 centimetres the world’s tallest man, was the guest star of last year’s Vienna Recordia.

The 27-year-old explained: "The advantages of being so tall are balanced by inconveniences such as the difficulty of finding clothes that fit and the acrobatics involved in getting into a taxi."
