Donna Leon to read at Haydn Days

Bestseller author Donna Leon will take part in this year’s Haydn Days festival, organisers announced today (Weds).

The series of events, set to take place in Eisenstadt between 9 and 20 September, focus on artists who celebrate an anniversary this year like Frederic Chopin and Gustav Mahler.

Haydn Days head organiser Walter Reicher said: "All artists taking part in the festival will have some sort of connection to Haydn. This year’s programme enables us to discover 300 years of music in Europe."

Reicher revealed American novelist Donna Leon will come to Eisenstadt to read texts on the night the Il Complesso Barocco orchestra performs.

Other participating acts are the Prague Chamber Orchestra, violinist Julian Rachlin and the Israel Chamber Orchestra.

Around 435,000 people attended events like concerts and exhibitions taking place across the province of Burgenland last year taking place to honour composer Joseph Haydn. The year 2009 marked the 200th anniversary of the his death.
