Robber fails to be taken seriously

A 29-year-old drunk became a laughing stock after failing to rob a Spar supermarket and a Bank Austria (BA) branch in Vienna yesterday (Thurs) afternoon, police said.

Employees in both establishments refused to take Christian W., who was high on booze and pills, seriously.

After being dismissed by a female employee at the Spar supermarket, the unmasked man went to a BA branch on Gumpendorfer Straße and demanded money, warning a female teller that he had a weapon.

But instead of giving in to his demands, the plucky teller and a colleague amused themselves by chatting with the wannabe robber until police arrived and arrested him after being alerted by the bank.

The boozy thief who did not have a weapon, told police he needed money to buy medicine for his sick daughter.
