A two-person-play based on Stephen King’s psychological horror novel "Misery" will be on at the Volkstheater’s main stage after becoming an audience favourite when performed earlier on the theatre’s smaller attic stage.
Simon Moore’s play directed by Lisa-Maria Cerha has drawn the crowds over the past few years at the small "Black Salon" stage in the theatre’s roof, and Volkstheater bosses have now decided to bring it to the big stage on 31 March.
"Misery" portrays bestselling author Paul Sheldon’s frantic bids to escape the clutches of obsessed fan Annie Wilkes who detains him at her remote house after he has a car accident.
Stephen King’s 1987 novel of the same name was turned into an acclaimed Hollywood film starring Kathy Bathes and James Caan.
It has yet to be seen whether Claudia Sabitzer and Rainer Frieb will manage to create the intimate atmosphere they caused in the dark attic venue which has a significantly lower audience capacity than the Volkstheater’s main stage.
