'Sinister' concert to mark Munch exhibit end

By Thomas Hochwarter

A concert of "sinister" works by Edvard Grieg and Franz Liszt is to be held at Vienna’s Leopold Museum to mark the end of its Edvard Munch exhibit.

Museum bosses said pianist Zoltan Füzessery and cello player Rudolf Leopold will perform works by Grieg, Liszt and Dmitri Shostakovich on 16 January.

"Edvard Munch und das Unheimliche" (Edvard Munch and the Sinister) which focuses on the Norwegian artist and contemporaries including Cuno Amiet, Francisco de Goya and James Ensor runs until 18 January (6pm).

The museum – located in the Museumsquartier in Vienna-Neubau – is open from 10am to 9pm from today (Tues) until Sunday and free guided tours of the exhibition are available everyday at 7pm.

With 30 pieces of art, Oslo’s Edvard Munch Museum has contributed the most works to the Leopold Museum show.

Munch’s most famous painting "Skrik" (The Scream) is not part of the exhibit after it was damaged when it was stolen in 2004 before being recovered two years later. The Leopold Museum exhibit, however, features a black and white lithography of the world famous work.

Exhibition curator Michael Fuhr said: "This is an exhibit you will not forget once you see it."
