Tree-throwing record bid fails

By Lisa Chapman

More than a hundred people turned up in a bid to break a record for tree-throwing in Lower Austria this Sunday.

But the more than 100 men and women who took part in the second annual Yuletide tree-throwing competition in in Eichenbrunn in Mistelbach district failed to break last year’s record of 11.45 metres after organisers admitted the tree they had used was "heavier and thicker" than last year.

Michael Staribacher, who organised the competition, said there would be a third tree-throwing contest in 2011.
