Star tenor Rolando Villazon has chosen Vienna to make a comeback after having to cancel all his performances this year, it has emerged.
The Mexican said today (Tues) he would play Nemorino in Gaetano Donizetti’s "L'elisir d'amore" at the State Opera on 22 March.
The 37-year-old announced last month his voice was "back" after had to cancel all his 2009 engagements when a cyst was found on his vocal chords – a discovery which sparked speculation his career could be over.
The tenor – who starred in Robert Dornhelm’s cinematic adaption of Giacomo Puccini’s opera "La Bohème" last year – will follow up with performances as Lensky in Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s "Eugene Onegin" at the Berlin State Opera on 26 and 31 March as well as on 2 April.
