Hollywood superstar Kevin Costner will perform with his country-rock band Modern West in Austria next year, it has emerged.
Vienna Stadthalle officials said today (Thurs) the two-time Oscar winner star would hit the stage at the venue – the capital’s biggest indoor concert venue – on 19 March.
Costner is expected to perform own songs as well as rock classics with his band that he recently made his main focus.
Doubts remain whether the actor will return to making movies at all since his revelation that music has been his true passion for many years – while most of his latest films have been panned by critics and ignored by the masses. The star said it was his wife – German Christine Baumgartner – who encouraged him to fulfil his dream of playing his music live.
Costner landed blockbusters in the 1980s and 1990s with films like "Silverado", "Dances With Wolves" and "The Bodyguard" before flops like "Waterworld" and "Open Range" followed.
The 54-year-old was only recently due to come to Vienna. But a video message sent from Monte Carlo was all the sold-out crowd at the city’s Konzerthaus got to see from the star at a concert gala last October in which the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra performed the film music of Oscar-awarded British composer John Barry.
Tickets for the Vienna performance by Modern West and Costner – who is not accompanied by his family on tour since he is terrified they could could catch swine flu –are on sale at regular agents. It has to be seen how the advance sale will go since thousands of tickets for the band’s gig in Arad, Romania, were given away for free, according to reports.

Kevin Costner's got a movie premiering at Sundance Film Fest in January 2010 called 'The Company Men' - He is in a movie called 'The New Daughter' that will come out in 2010 - He's been scouting film sites for a movie he intends to direct in 2010 - He's going to star in a movie directed by Kevin Reynolds in 2010 - He's obviously as busy at making movies as he is with singing!
