Austrian Emperors letters to mistress to go under the hammer

Letters by late Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I to his mistress and confidante will go under the hammer in Vienna next week.
Vienna-based auctioneers Dorotheum said the three letters by the emperor – who reigned between 1848 until 1916 – to actress Katharina Schratt draw a very personal portrait of Franz Joseph I as he writes about mourning the death of his only son, Rudolf, Crown Prince of Austria.
Other parts of the handwritten letters – to be auctioned next Wednesday (2 December) deal with the emperor’s successes at a hunt in Hungary.
Schratt was dubbed the "uncrowned Empress of Austria" for her close relationship with Franz Joseph I.
The documents can be inspected at the Palais Dorotheum in Dorotheergasse 17 from today (Thurs).
