Trainee falls into manhole minutes after uncovering it

A teenage plumber was hospitalised after falling into a manhole during work in Upper Austria yesterday (Tues).

Police said the 17-year-old plunged five metres after failing to notice an open manhole – which he and his colleague, 15, had opened up just minutes earlier.

Officials said he suffered serious injuries in the incident which occurred in Unterach am Attersee in the province’s Vöcklabruck district.

The teen was taken to Gmunden hospital for treatment.
