Unreleased Falco songs found in studio basement

Unreleased material by late Austrian pop star Falco has been unearthed, it has been reported yesterday (Sun).

German newspaper Bild am Sonntag claimed the material was discovered as managers cleared out basement rooms after a water pipe ruptured at a Frankfurt music studio.

The recordings by the Vienna-born singer who died in a car crash on the Dominican Republic in 1998 had been left there by former Falco producer Gunter Mende who once ran the studio.

Mende said: "I found out the tapes contain forgotten songs like ‘Qué pasa Hombre’, ‘Poison’, ‘Nuevo Africano’, ‘Kissing in the Kremlin’ – and ‘The Spirit never dies – Jeanny Final’."

Mende claimed the tapes feature Falco – who was praised as the first white rapper in mainstream music – singing.

He said the songs were recorded in 1987.

Mende added he would now work on the tracks to release them on the album "The Spirit never dies" on 4 December.

Speculation is already rife about the song "The Spirit never dies – Jeanny Final". Hit single "Jeanny" – about the death of a young girl – caused a scandal in 1985 for allegedly glorifying violence. The story continued in the song "Coming Home", and "The Spirit never dies" may be the final chapter of the trilogy.

Falco, whose real name was Johann Hölzel, is widely regarded as Austria’s only real pop star after his song "Rock me Amadeus" topped the American Billboard Charts and UK’s top ten in 1985.

Earlier this year, a street in Vienna-Donaustadt was renamed after the district’s famous son.
