A charity concert in July for victims of a flood garnered 14,500 Euros, organisers announced today (Thurs).
The event called "FlutHilfe" – which took place in Güssing in southern Burgenland earlier this month – featured Vienna-based blues guitarist Hans Theessink and rock band Opus, among others. All artists performed for free.
Its initiators, former Burgtheater actor Frank Hoffmann and Social Democratic (SPÖ) councillor Verena Dunst, said all earnings would go to the charity platform "Burgenland hilft – Süd" that had supported companies and households in the area damaged by torrential rainfalls in late June.
Burgenland People’s Party (ÖVP) Agriculture Councillor Werner Falb-Meixner announced recently that damages in the province caused by flooding had amounted to around 13.5 million Euros, with the most northern part and the southern district of Güssing the worst affected. Falb-Meixner added that a total of 87 provincial municipalities had submitted damage claims.
