Child falls from ski lift

Dramatic scenes happened at the Kristallbahn chair lift in Gaschurn, Vorarlberg (Western Austria) last Thursday. A girl did not manage to sit down on the lift properly. Although the mother tried hard to hold her, the child fell off the lift.

The six-year-old girl from Germany did not manage to sit down properly and close the safety bar. The mother put every effort into keeping her daughter on the lift until she could not hold her any longer.

The little girl fell into the deep snow and suffered from a severe lower leg fracture. Dr Ulrich Schneppenheim of sanatorium Schenk in Schruns said that the girl’s injuries could heal at home, which would take a couple of weeks.

"I could not hold my girl any longer", the mother from Cologne, Germany, struggled for words. Although nobody is blaming the woman, the police have announced investigations of the exact course of events.

A similar accident happened in the middle of February, when an eight-year-old boy fell eight metres from a ski lift in Kleinwalsertal, Vorarlberg.
