False doctor uncovered

In order to impress his new girlfriend in Tyrol, a homeless man from Innviertel (Upper Austria) pretended to be a senior physician. The 22-year-old showed her a fake employment contract and promised her employment. He borrowed thousands of Euros from the family of his 23-year-old girlfriend.

The man from the district of Braunau and the woman from Tyrol met each other on the Internet. The unemployed young man pretended to be a surgeon and convinced his new love that he was a senior physician.

He pretended to be three years older than he actually was, which should have raised the girl’s suspicions. Studying medicine, along with all the necessary work experience, takes a long time and would have meant that the man would have started studying when he was a teenager.

But clearly love is blind. In blind faith and in the hope of a job with the imposter, the woman handed in her notice with her current job. She also rented an expensive flat for them both in her name that cost 1,600 Euros.

In order to make ends meet, the man borrowed 15,000 Euros from the family of his girlfriend, which he obviously could not pay back.

The father of the girl eventually became suspicious and called the police. At this point, the house of cards came tumbling down for the young man. He admitted his deceit and was arrested.
