56-year-old dies in a snow slab

A 56-year-old skier died yesterday (Mon) in a snow slab in Lech, Tyrol. A ski-lift attendant found the man buried upside down in the snow.

At around 15.30, the man from Oberland, Tyrol, was skiing with his wife and son on piste No. 3 towards Zuers.

According to the police, the man skied over the edge of the piste. Thus, he released a 20-metre-wide snow slab and was buried.

His wife and son waited a little below for him because he had been the last one of the group. They eventually alarmed the piste patrol.

A ski-lift attendant skied down the piste and discovered the man who was buried upside down.

The attendant dug out the man and called for help. The team of an emergency helicopter tried to reanimate the 56-year-old, but this proofed unsuccessful.
