Monika Rathgeber challenges her dismissal in court

Monika Rathgeber challenges her dismissal in court

The aftermath of the financial scandal of Salzburg, Austria, reached court on Friday.

Monika Rathgeber, head of the financial division who was dismissed from the financial department of the state of Salzburg on 7 December 2012 is challenging her dismissal at the Labour and Social court in Salzburg.

Rathgeber’s lawyer Herbert Huebel claims that Rathgeber’s dismissal was imposed too late. The state of Salzburg, however, counters that Rathgeber’s former superior, court councillor "Hofrat" Eduard Paulus, had only come to know about Rathgeber’s transgressions on 5 December.

This would mean that the dismissal on 7 December was in good time.

The state of Salzburg named the grounds for dismissal: Rathgeber had been declared untrustworthy due to forgery of documents and minutes of meetings.

Financial consultant Mr Brenner, who resigned after the scandal had become public, and Mr Paulus were also questioned on the case on Friday.
