Two deaths of Christmas skiiers

A German dad died on a skiing holiday with his family after he skied off the pisteed run and broke his neck in a wooded area at the Hinterstoder ski resort.

The 42-year-old man who was a logistics engineer from Kremsmünster in Germany was on holiday with his three children Philipp (21), Matthias (16) and Sarah (13) and his wife Petra and was alone when the accident happened.

He was only found two hours later when his body was spotted by another skier. Medics could only confirm that he was dead after breaking his neck.

The accident happened on Christmas Day at around 10 o'clock in the morning. The man's family said that he was an experienced skier and police are trying to work out how the accident could have happened.

It follows on from a similar tragedy also on Christmas Day when another 44-year-old holidaymaker from Germany was in the Carinthian ski resort of Innerkrems and died after a bad fall – this time on a pisted run. He was also killed instantly after the crash.
