Group of Krampus mowed down by car in Tirol

A group of men dressed as Krampus had to be raced to hospital in Tirol after snowy conditions caused a car to crash into them.

The incident occurred early on Thursday evening (6 December 2012). A tractor was parked up on a street in the Tirolean city of Schwaz, ready to transport a group of men dressed up as Krampus in its trailer – dressing as a demon or "Krampus" is in keeping with the Austrian feast day of Saint Nikolaus.

According to the rescue team, the tractor had been well illuminated, but a car wanting to pass the tractor drove around it and crashed unexpectedly into the group of costumed men.

Three men were hit by the car and injured. They were rescued by two Red Cross rescue workers and one doctor and taken to a hospital in Schwaz.

Further accidents in Kössen and Gries im Sellrain also saw cars swerving off roads, landing in ditches and crashing into bridges as motorists struggled against dangerous weather conditions.
