Monumentally stupid idea leaves thief in hospital

Hungarian Kardos Mor, 28, ended up in intensive care after deciding to leap into a tourist attraction in Vienna in a bid to gather up coins thrown by visitors that were supposed to bring good luck.

Archaeologists uncovered the remains of a Roman ruin at the Michaelerplatz years ago and decided to build a small wall around it and leave it open so that visitors could view the site. It then became a tradition for money to be thrown into the open area - which Hungarian Kardos and his friend decided would be good to collect after dark.

But because it was dark and they didn't want to use lights and warn police that they were there, the pair jumped down into the ruin - and landed on an uncovered shaft which then left them falling seveb meters.

Mor's pal managed to free himself but Mor remained critically injured and had to be rescued by firemen who handed him over to ambulance drivers to take him to the intensive care ward.
