Hitler Schnaps seller not to be prosecuted
Austrian prosecutors dropped plans to prosecute a man from Vorarlberg in the east of the country after he started selling "Hitler-Schnaps".
Promoting or glorify anything to do with the Third Reich is strictly illegal in Austria but the investigations into the 48-year-old, named by the Austrian Times as Roland Marte, were dropped after prosecutors were unable to prove that the sale of the schnapps was intended to glorify the National Socialist era.
Police moved in after Green Party MP Harald Walser made a formal complaint about the sale – instantly making the schnapps a bestseller.
The schnapps seller from Goetzis claimed that he had simply discovered a gap in the market that he wanted to capitalise on, by putting Hitler's image, name and a swastika on the bottles.
The MP has said he will complain directly to justice Minister Beatrix Karl from the conservative People's party about the decision to shelve the investigation.
He said there were lots of indicators that the man had something to do with the far right scene.
Roland Marte described the products as: "Nostalgic bottles from a former historical great."
He added that he now plans to start selling Hitler wine.
