Virtual orchestra unites young musicians from around the world
A group of professional musicians based in the USA have created a virtual youth orchestra. The project created by "Little Symphony", is open to musicians from all around the world and hopes to promote classical music amongst the modern generation.
The online venture simply asks for the musicians to record themselves playing their various instruments and to upload them onto YouTube. The applicants can select an extract from the specific piece of classical music on the "Little Symphony" website, play it using a metronome to ensure the correct speed and then send the link to the organisers. The entrants are then combined into a master video which has everyone playing the full piece of music together.
The innovative project, which allows musicians from around the world to connect and interact, released its first piece about two weeks ago. Some 106 participants from 30 different countries including Romania, Russia, Ecuador and Australia, came together to play the well-known Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel.
