Explosive bank robbers strike again

A gang of thieves, who are thought to have blown up a total of 54 cash machines in order to get to their loot, have committed yet another crime in a bank in Lower Austria. The branch of Raiffeisenbank in Biedermannsdorf, was left filled with smoke and the cash dispenser blown to pieces in the early hours of Monday morning.

It took the thieves a matter of seconds to blow up the cash machine and make off with around 50,000 Euros. Having made their way into the foyer of the bank at around 3.32am one of the masked thieves covered the security cameras.

The technique to break into the sturdy cash points reportedly involves filling the machine with gas, before using an electric charge from a simple cable and car battery to cause the explosion. The cash machine in Biedermannsdorf was left in pieces and the bank filled with the gas. Such was the force of the explosion that even the windows of the bank were completely smashed.

A local resident, Leopoldine Heinzmann, who was woken by the sound of the explosion managed to get a view of the cash point thieves. "I saw a dark car racing away", said the pensioner, "shortly after I had heard the deafening noise", she explained.

Investigations at the scene of the crime have revealed that the gang behind this particular explosion likely to have been responsible for several other such bank robberies. Police are unsure how many people were involved in this case.
