Fritzl horror to be made into a film

A production company in Rome has purchased the rights to turn the Fritzl incest horror-story into a film.

The basis for the film will be a novel from a young Italian author Paolo Sortino. The 29-year-old's first work tells the story of Fritzl’s daughter who lived in his cellar for 27-years and gave birth to seven of her father’s children. The book attempts to delve into the psyche of the victims of the incest horror, despite Sortino never having met any of those involved personally, it was a huge success in Italy amongst both critics and readers.

Italian production company "Lotus Production" now intends to turn Sortino’s work into a film. "The story which is based on the Austrian story is in our opinion the right screenplay for a dramatic and contemporary film," said Head of Lotus Production, Marco Belardi.

The script must now be put together and actors and actresses discussed and as such it is unclear when production will begin. One thing that is clear however is that none of the film's royalties will end up in Fritzl’s pocket.
