Nabbed human traffickers used Austrian-flagged yacht
Three Ukrainians sailing on an Austrian-flagged yacht have been arrested amid accusations of having smuggled illegal immigrants into Europe.
Italian newspapers report today (Weds) that the trio, now in custody in the southern city of Crotone, shipped more than 30 immigrants of various nationalities into the country.
An increasing number of human traffickers operating on sea routes have recently focused on using yachts hoping custom officials would let them pass without proper checks.
Meanwhile, Viennese police announced Romanian mafia bosses forced up to 40 beggars to live in a tiny flat. Sixteen gang chiefs were arrested following several months of investigations into organised begging.
