Driver thinks undercover police action is armed holdup

An attentive driver caused police-internal havoc by reporting a robbery which turned out to be an operation by plain-clothed officers.

Officials in the Upper Austrian city of Linz said today (Mon) a motorist called the police emergency number 133 to report an armed assault on a driver by a group of men armed with guns in front of his car.

Special police unit officers arrived at the location within minutes - to realise the alleged robbers were plain-clothed colleagues arresting a criminal on the run.

Local newspapers report that the mix-up happened as undercover officers had failed to inform their bosses of the planned crackdown on the crook last Wednesday.
