Policemen catch python

Policemen were called out by hikers after they spotted a 1.30-metre-long snake near a mountain restaurant in Söll yesterday (Sun).

Tyrolean officials said today the reptile was found to be a non-venomous Python regius. Courageous officers caught the snake and handed it over to a local animal shelter.

Authorities said they suspect someone had abandoned the snake which derives from Africa. No one was injured in the incident, they added.
