Tourist 'forgets' wife at service station

An Austrian holidaymaker left behind his wife at a motorway service station in Germany, it has emerged.

Police report today (Thurs) bungling Hubert K. from Linz, Upper Austria, drove 40 kilometres before realising that his wife Erika was still at the A2 motorway service station near Bielefeld.

The woman, 64, told officers they decided to take a break after driving around 300 kilometres nonstop after a one-week vacation at the Baltic Sea.

Her 68-year-old husband, who did not have a mobile phone with him, was back at the service station before further measures had to be taken.

The man failed to make clear why he drove on without his wife in the passenger seat.

Reports by German newspapers have it that the rest of the journey went down smoothly.
