Biker crashes into Vienna tram

A motorcyclist was seriously injured as he collided with a tram in Vienna yesterday (Thurs).

Police in Penzing district said today the 18-year-old overtook a car which stopped to let the line 52 tram pass. The young man sustained spine injuries. He was hospitalised at the Emergency Clinic in Meidling.

The packed tram’s passengers survived the accident unharmed, while its unharmed driver needed psychological counselling.

Service on the line was blocked for around one hour as fire-fighters had to drag away the damaged train.
