WWII bombs found at Styrian train station
Construction work at Leibnitz station was abandoned for 24 hours after three World War Two bombs were found in one day.
Styrian officials said today (Tues) workers discovered the three aerial cluster bombs during excavation work yesterday.
The relicts were defused and removed by a team of interior ministry explosives expert.
Train traffic was not affected by the discoveries, but authorities decided to halt building and digging operations for one day to ensure a safe working environment.
Another team of explosives experts discovered two World War Two aerial bombs beneath Wels Airport in Upper Austria – where Australian rock legends AC/DC are set to perform next month.
Officials said one of the missiles was defective while the other one did not have a detonator. They stressed the 22 May gig which is expected to draw around 80,000 fans was not in put into question by the findings.
