Crash diets can lead to crashed cars, says doc

Crash diets could lead to car crashes, car club ÖAMTC doctor Heimo Vedernjak warned today (Weds).

"Unfortunately, many people who want to lose weight do everything wrong that it is possible to do," he said stressing that this made driving especially dangerous.

Lack of proper nourishment weakened the body and lowered its blood-sugar level, leading to possible physical and mental problems, the doctor said, and this could lead to fatigue and lack of ability to concentrate followed by circulatory problems and blackouts.

Safe dieting equals safe driving, said the doc, pointing to fruit and veg, little meat, no alcohol and two to three litres of water daily as a prime example of how to stay fit and healthy at home and on the roads.
