Austrian ski tourer falls to her death in Slovenia

An Austrian woman fell 200 metres to her death while ski touring yesterday near Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, Slovene police said today (Mon).

The woman, 43, from Villach, Carinthia, who was experienced and well-equipped, was climbing up the mountain Mala Mojstrovka when she fell at an altitude of 1,900 metres. Rescuers took her to a hospital in Jesenice, where she died.

The woman was ski touring with a 50-year-old man from Villach when the accident happened. The Slovene newspaper Dnevnik said today that she had lost her balance for some reason just before she fell.

A Slovene woman who witnessed the fall notified rescuers.
