Austria 'might help' Greece, says minister

People’s Party (ÖVP) Finance Minister Josef Pröll said on Saturday that Austria might play a secondary role in helping almost bankrupt Greece.

He said Austria would not provide the Greek government with any financial subsidies as countries like Germany and France might do but might assume liability for part of credit for Greece if other EU member state governments showed signs of solidarity with it.

Pröll said: "We in the Euro-zone are a community of solidarity. It is not a matter of Greece but of the Euro. There is no sign of coordinated European assistance to Greece."
